| 11. Homage to Marcus In honor of Marcus Schulkind, teacher, choreographer and mentor extrordinaire 2006, mixed mediums, 22x30  All images © Joan Green MARCUS: He sees into our bodies. He touches exactly where it hurts. He articulates where brilliance is missing, where energy needs to shift, where our heads are in the way of our hearts. He crafts amazing dances (the audience breathes deeply, sighs, is not the same). He holds aspirations for his students, his dancers. He nurtures what is unique in each one. He passes to them stories, insights from a life in dance. He offers them beautiful patterns with which to eat space. He sees into the structure of the dances they are creating. He works for every one to flourish. He sees them leave to dazzle in New York, London, San Fransisco. His dances are not the flavor-of-the-month, but he continues to make them, ever deeper, ever purer. |
